Save Yourself When No One Else Can
This company, and the tools that have been designed, were all put together for one reason, saving the lives of firefighters. My name is John Meredith. I have been a professional firefighter for almost 25 years. I currently serve as a Lieutenant with the Pelham Fire Department. Within the last decade a department close to us lost a brother. He fell through a floor that had a fire burning below it. When our department found out the details we immediately looked at how we would handle this situation. That is when I realized that there is very little that can be done by a fire crew to get someone out of this situation alive. So I sat for over a year drawing and designing tools that could be deployed by fire crews that would assist in this situation. That's when I realized the true fact of this entire situation. If a firefighter falls through a floor the only real chance they will have is to SAVE THEMSELVES.
This meant going back to the drawing board and finding a way for firefighters to save themselves. After almost another year I found the answer. The one thing that is universal and is always with us is a fire hose. So I designed a tool that is lightweight, can be carried in our bunker pants, and can be used to CLIMB FIRE HOSE. It's called the Mayday Climberâ„¢. It can be deployed with seconds and a firefighter can climb right back out of the hole he fell through in less than a minute.
It is my hope that "through the door, through the floor" will not be the end of the scenario. My hope is that it will be "through the door, through the floor, climb back out, and give me a shout !!!" It would be a reward beyond measure if firefighters from around the U.S. called or emailed me telling me how they were able to get out of this deadly situation and go back home to their families. My heart is for the men an women I serve with. I pray this tool makes a difference.
